Aviator left on battery tender for a month …

2022 Reserve : Hello to all, I’m taking a month long cruise in November. I purchased a CTECH 7002 battery maintainer to use on the SUV while I’m gone. I’m gonna have it plugged into a GFIC switch. Don’t know if that’s mandatory. Anyhow, I was wondering if any of my AVIATOR buds have tried this. Would appreciate your thoughts. .

While I haven't had an Aviator on a tender I do keep my boats and my CTS-V wagon on a tender year 'round. Zero issues

I have kept my Mustangs on trickle chargers for years. Since they are in a garage, the plugs are on a GFIC. But don’t think that makes any difference.

GFIC outlets/breakers are quite common nowadays. Every once in a while you will have one that experiences nuisance trips. But in general there would be no concern with any battery tender on a GFIC protected outlet.

Mine is parked in the garage. I had an electrician install two GFIC switches and two regular switches. As you said, the regular switches should work fine, In fact, I was thinking the GFIC switches would need to be manually reset if the power goes out and comes back on while I’m away. The other two would come back on automatically. Thanks for your comment

if your battery dies in a month without it being used, that's not normal.

It's a good idea, but not necessary.- if you're talking 3, 6, 9+ months that's different.

If the 2022 still has original battery, trickle charger for a week or two of sitting is a good idea. Our 2022 needs it anyways. Always starts even if not on trickle charger but some of the settings might be lost and a few glitches appear until battery is fully charged again. I usually get a "went into deep sleep mode" message after 10 days or so. Probably about time for a battery although the Lincoln dealers have tested it and say it is fine. The computers aboard take a little power all the time.
Our trickle charger has never been an issue with a GFIC.

Modern cars with all the live electronic sensors and apps will drain a battery in about 3 weeks if not charged. That’s the new normal.

vehicles sit on dealers lots for months at a time.The computer hibernates most of everything, while there are electronics that still draw power,but a month is not the peak point.

There's definitely a difference though... most of the cars on the dealer lots generally don't have 2-4 year old used batteries.

Happens on all of my cars. Very common topic on the Mustang blogs.
The cars on dealer lots have not been activated, so all the apps are sleeping.
Had to show a dealer friend how to install trickle chargers on the GT350 and GT500s he has for show in the showroom. He got tired of replacing the batteries every month or so.

There is a trick on where you connect to fool the smart battery circuit. Never connect directly to the battery terminals.

I connected ring terminals to battery to facilitate a quick connect of trickle charger. Works fine. Goes to float charge overnight

Hi Steve. I have the same charger. Although I've never used it as a 'maintainer', I have used it for more than 10 years as a charger and just use a standard outlet in the garage to plug it into. Works great.
