Hi 2thunderroad. Just keep in mind: While they may be directional, there are not separate left and right side wheels. The exact same part number/wheel is used for all four wheel positions.

So the two on the left will face one way, the two on the right will face the other. And any of the four wheels can be on either side of the car.

Hi gang. Looks as though Action is correct. Some of the 1997 Mark VII wheels are directional and asymmetrical.

How I got confused: On modern Lincolns, asymmetrical wheels like those on the 1997 Mark VIII (and as on my 2018 MKZ with the Drivers Package wheels) use the same wheel for the left and right side. So in other words...The wheel design on the left side will point in a different direction than the right side. So they roll/point in different directions when rolling forward.

Some of the 1997 Mark VII wheels are not directional/asymmetrical. However, some are, and do have left/right models, although it is not an aerodynamic or handling issue as with directional tires.

Now that we are discussing it, I do recall how there was a bit of an uproar some years back when many/most automakers stopped making different wheels for the left and right sides of the car with asymmetrical wheels.

So it does seem that the 1997 Mark VIII has asymmetrical wheels which are also directional.

Hi Action. Yes, if you look at the link I included, it shows all the available wheels for the Mark VIII's, including the chromed asymmetrical "directional" wheels, which seem to use different part numbers for the left and right sides.
Also the chromed symmetric "non-directional" wheels which use the same part number for left and right sides.

Hi Action. Okay, I will save you some reading.

It verifies that there were "directional" wheels (as you stated), and also non-directional wheels available on the 1997 Mark VIII.

It seems there were three styles of directional/asymmetric wheels. Two chromed one not.

And 4 styles of non-directional/symmetric wheels.

Hopefully, 2thunderroad now has the information he needs.
