24 Nautilus: Android Auto Full Screen

Why did the way Android Auto starts change to Full Screen? I can't seem to be able to turn it off.
With full screen interaction don't have the icons down the left side to access Vehicle Settings and other stuff. For that I need to disconnect Android Auto on the phone.

I use CarPlay, not Android Auto, but in the upper left corner is a diagonal arrow that when tapped, toggles the screen between full width and partial width. The latter gives me the icons down the left side.

This is my screen. The apps button looks the same.
