Good Morning,
I have been having a problem with my apple car play constantly dropping while i am using the Maps navigation while in the middle of a work day (i am a Realtor often going from different areas to see houses). Its constantly dopping my calls while i am in the middle of a coversation. TODAY when i plugged in the phone its not acknowledging that the phone is even plug in through the USB even thoug the plug is defintely working because it is charging the phone. I did a default factory reset. I deleted my phone and re-paired it. I turned the phone on and off multiple times. I changed to a different USB port and it still charged but did not turn synch to apple car play. When I hit apps and try to find apps it basically is telling me I cant searc for apps unless I am plugged in to a USB port and I AM ! Its charging throug the car. I am so frustrated because the phone works so much better with the apple car play. Anyone else had this problem? Lincoln in Schenectady is booked out to mid next month to get me in there.

You did a lot, I'm not sure, so easy to hardest...........

1) Remove phone from phone case to see if it works any better.
2) Try different cables. Apple cables kind of suck. I've had phones say they are charging but nothing else worked.
3) Try updating iOS to latest
4) Try delete and renaming device
5) Reset Network Settings on your iPhone. This is a pain since it also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings . but you could have a virus or some cross-conductivity and not know it.
6) All dealerships I dealt with are very frustrating, so I put this as hardest solution.

Hope you find a solution in this computer controlled world.

Thank you Mark. I really appreciate it. I did get the dealership to squeeze me in and of course it started working for them but they did use their cable and it worked. Then I tried my cable when I picked it up later in the day and all the sudden it’s miraculously started working again 🙄. Those above are good suggestions. If it ever happens again I will try those things.

I’d try a different cable. Many cable are not merely wires… they do have electronics built in, and sometimes those fail (happened to me with a Thunderbolt cable). And Apple cables don’t suck, they are actually pretty good In my experience. But whatever you use, make sure it it’s labeled “MFi”, Made For iPhone. Those should give you the best performance. You may also want to clean the plugs on your phone and in the car to make sure there is no debris in there and that they are clean to provide a good electrical connection.

Wanted to make another point about phone cables in the car.…. Regular phone cables such as the ones that come with the phone are really not made to be used inside automobiles, where they are exposed to heat, sun, constantly bent and flexed during use in the car, etc. On a computer podcast I listen to, one of the hosts mentioned this and related his stories of cables that have died inside his cars for those reasons, and I have experienced it too. Consequently, you might want to get a more durable connection cable for in-vehicle use. I use these nylon cables from Anker and they have been working great.
