When I open and close my driver door it makes a creaking or crackling sound. Hard to describe, I had it at the dealer and it went away for about a month. Now it’s doing it again. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi JDH. Does it seem to be coming from the hinges/hinge areas? What did he Dlear do when you had it in? What does the repair order state?

Still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty? If yes, stop by the Dealership and show/demonstrate it to them.

If not, you can still stop by and see if they have any other ideas and/or will lubricate the hinges. Especially since you had it in for this issue already.

If not, purchase a can of Lithium spray grease and lubricate the hinges.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thank you for your input and suggestions. But believe me I’ve done everything you suggested. It sounds like plastic cracking. My friend has a buddy at our local Ford dealer in the service dept.
He said it sounds like a inner door assembly. He has seen this before but he didn’t look at mine. If it is the door assembly they aren’t cheap. About $500. That’s not installed.

Hi JDH. You did not answer any of the other questions I asked. Is your Continental still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty? What did the Dealer do when you had it in? What does the repair order state?

I bought the car used with 25k. The dealership serviced the door by greasing and lubricating the upper and lower door hinges. They did not charge me for lubing the hinges. I am taking it in for state inspection next month. My friend at the Ford dealership said it may not be covered being a used car. We’ll see.

Hi JDH. The 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty Period begins on the day the vehicle was sold to the first owner (the "in-service date").

As long as you are within that 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty period, something like this is covered.

Good luck.

Door check spring is to strong. It cracked the door where the door check mounts to the door.

Yep, and I’m being told, by a Lincoln Dealership in Pittsburgh, it’s not covered under warranty.

Hi JDH. Call Lincoln Concierge and file a formal case, and/or make a service appointment to have another Lincoln Dealership take a look.

What was the reason given for a warranty coverage denial? If the vehicle is still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty and the problem is due to/caused by a defect in material and/or workmanship, it should be covered under warranty.
If the vehicle is out of warranty, and/or it appears to be due to some sort of misuse (i.e the door being flung open), then the claim would be denied.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Believe me I tried everything you’re telling me. I sent a picture of my cracked door to my Lincoln Conceirge. She said it’s not covered. I’m just to fix it myself.

Hi JDH. What was the reason for the warranty claim denial?

If the vehicle is still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty, then there needs to be a reason for a warranty denial. There are not many non-defect possibilities for damage like this. Therefore, if Lincoln will not cover it under warranty, are they claiming the damage was caused by the door being flung open (accidentally and/or negligently)?

If they did not give you a reason for the claims denial, you should ask for one (in writing).

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Model year 2017 may be beyond 4 years from the warranty start date.

What is the other issue shown in the circle?
Or at least it looks like an issue. Is it related?
And the crack looks like it has been going on for a rather long time.

Hi Action. Yes, it very well may be. That was why I've asked several times. ;)
And if it is, then it certainly will not be covered under warranty, unless Lincoln offers to perform it as a goodwill gesture.

Good luck.

94 - 2003 Jaguar XJs had this problem; but not after 10 to 15 years of usage unless the door gets caught in the wind. very large washers will fix. Search the internet for door check fixes.

That is just the inside of the cap on the inside of the door. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just plastic.

He said it is a 2017 Continental. The warranty is beyond the 4 year coverage. He only has the 6 year coverage on powertrain.

Yes, that’s what Lincoln told me as well. It’s a shame, it’s a beautiful car. I’m not keeping it though!

Yes it is a beautiful car. Only reason I bought one was because they discontinued them and I retired. I don't drive it much because I have another car that is leased for 4 years. Because of COVID-19 we haven't been able to travel, so I haven't put many miles on it. I did buy the 2017 Continental used, and went through some problems with the dealer on stuff that wasn't done during the 4 year warranty. With a law here in Canada you have a time period that you can return a vehicle for full refund if not satisfied. Main problem was the modem didn't work. I told them I was returning the car if they didn't do these repairs free of charge on the grounds that I bought it from them with everything working. The passenger door also would not open which was found on the drive home after I picked it up. This was the start of my fight with the Lincoln dealership. I don't think they wanted the fallout from me returning it. I love the car, and I'm saddened you are having problems. These cars at the price they are, shouldn't be having problems already.

Hi dmorneau. Just to help with your confusion: It seems you are not aware, or did not take into consideration, that the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty period (and Powertrain Warranty) on a vehicle does not begin until the vehicle is sold to its first owner. That is known as the "In-service date".

Therefore, a 2017 model year vehicle could have sat on the lot until last month before it was first sold. Or it could have been sold to the first buyer sometime in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 etc. In all of those cases, the warranty could still be in effect, time wise. So since we do not know when JDH purchased his vehicle, we did not know the answer until we ask the questions.

Hope that information helps.

Good luck.

I had problems with the Continental that I didn’t post on the forum. Let me clue you in. First was I had moisture in my reverse light. After fighting with Lincoln the light was replaced. Light cost $2360 dollars. I did not have to pay anything. Two weeks later, after washing the car, moisture in reverse light on the opposite side. Light replaced again, no charge, seems to be moisture free so far.
Next my PCM (powertrain control module) went bad. Car would run but wouldn’t move. Towed to dealer 15 days later part replaced. Oh I was only given a loaner for 5 of those days. Next battery light comes on. I’m told these cars have liquid filled motor mounts. One leaked and ruined the wiring harness for the alternator. Once again 10 days before being fixed.
Now it’s my split drivers door that is not covered. Owned the car for 16 months. Understand my frustration?
