Not sure if my rear window deck is installed correctly or not? I'm trying to get my windows tinted and the installer can't get the rear window tint installed to the bottom of the glass. He said he has done non-hybrid MKZ's, but not a hybrid with the panoramic roof. The rear window deck lid is flush with the glass about an inch above where the glass ends. He said the older Lincoln LS's had that same issue.

My dealer doesn't install tint, they outsource to a third party. My tint guy suggests having the techs at Lincoln dealer remove or loosen deck and then bring it back for the rear window.

Has anyone else had this issue? If my car wasn't white I think I'd say just tint it the way it is, but with a white car it would be very noticeable.

Here is a picture describing the problem...still waiting to see how this is going to get resolved. I don't think the dealer has installed tint on a Hybrid with the panoramic roof yet. The other thing that I'm not sure of is the THX system and if the rear window speakers are the same as a standard audio system on the rear window deck.

I just had my tint done. They did have a slight issues doing the back window with the panoramic roof. They had to redo it once because the first one didn't fit correctly and wasn't flushed with the bottom like what you're saying. They just measured it from the outside, cut to fit, and did their magic. I did take some pix but it's a bit dark so if you want I can try to take one during the day if it's not too cloudy again.

Well that's encouraging...at least I know there is someone out there with a hybrid and the pano roof that was able to get it done without removing the rear windows deck. I really want to get it tinted because it's starting to get hot in Arizona...expecting triple digits next week (ugh).

If you can get a picture, that would be great, but if not don't worry about it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

They took some pictures of the car no close up though. If you have facebook, it's at speedzone in lakewood, wa.

Here is the albums page. Should be the bottom 4 pix.

If that doesn't work I'll try to get pix tomorrow.

Thank you Serraph, that sure looks nice. I talked to the tint owner today and he is going to talk with the the GM at the dealer to figure out why my vehicle is being so difficult and how to resolve it. I will keep you posted...

Any luck getting the rear window tinted?

Not yet! I have been out of town for work, supposedly the tint guy and the GM at the dealer have been talking and are going to tell me tomorrow how they are going to make it right. I don't know if I've got a defective install on the rear window deck or not? I've referenced this post to both of them so they could see that a hybrid with the pano roof was successfully tinted without having to remove the rear window deck or glass. It's pushing 100 degrees here in AZ, so I need to get this resovled soon. I will post back with an update once I talk to the tint guy. Thanks!

Update: I just got back from a meeting with the GM at the dealer and the tint guy. Based on what we all saw, the rear window deck is not correctly seated/positioned on my vehicle. Maybe when they took the car to Detroit for quality control and examined the rear window area they didn't get it put back into place properly. We looked at 4 other MKZ's on the lot (all tinted) and none of them had the rear window deck pressed directly against the glass. I'm dropping my car off at the dealer in the morning and getting a loaner Lincoln while they fix the problem. Once it's resolved, the tint guy will go to the dealer and tint it there. The dealer is going to submit the cost under warranty work because it's obviously not right. I'm feeling much better about things, I'll even feel better when I have the car back and all of the windows are tinted.

Wow that's good you guys caught it early on. Weird how inspections missed that. I wonder if they really did any inspections or just put the missing or short items in the car and send it off.

Update: So the saga continues. I dropped my car off this morning at the dealer and got a loaner MKX, about two hours later the GM called. He told me that the glass used on the vehicles with the Panoramic roof is completely different than the glass used on a non-pano roof vehicle. I drove back to the dealer after lunch and he showed me the difference, the non-pano vehicles glass goes all the way to the edge of the car on the sides. With the pano roof, they had to leave a slot for the track of the roof as it slides down the back. So it is indeed a different design that the standard vehicle.

He also said that when they talked to the folks at Lincoln HQ, they said that there is additional equipment used for powering and operating the panoramic roof and that is located under the rear window deck. That is why the rear window deck is pressed against the glass.

The GM showed me a car with the panoramic roof that they had tinted and it looked okay to me. He said that he also talked to the delaer tint guy and he said that they had quite a bit of hassle/trouble trying to get the tint in the rear window on the panoramic version of the MKZ. I could go on and on, but this is what we decided to do:

The original tint guy (3rd Party) is going to bring the tint to the dealer tint guy and the dealer tint guy is going to install it. The 3rd party tint guy is a perfectionist and wants to see how the dealer tint guy gets it done.

So to recap: It's not a defect, the car was designed like that. I don't know why any of use didn't catch that the rear glass was completely different on the pano version.

I will post another update once the rear window is tinted...setting up and appointment for next week.

Wow so much work for getting it tint. Wish my normal tint guy was there to help you. Mine took 3.5hours and I did say the first time he did the rear window he had to take it out and redo it. The tint looks great and really impressed with their workmanship.
