Hi Guys
I am hoping someone will be able to advise me regarding replacing the front brackets with motors on my L model.
I can see that the bracket is held on by 4 bolts, 2 x 13mm on to the chassis and 2 x Allen key head onto the running board, which creates no problem at all, however there appears to be a grub screw/ bolt holding the motor shaft onto the rod connecting both front and rear brackets.

The head of whatever this is faces up under the body of the car so I am unable to see exactly what type of head this fixing has.

Can anyone please advise me as to what this is, as that is all that is holding me up from what appears to be a relatively easy replacement fix.

Many thanks, Barry

I replaced many of these motors and running boards. But I don't understand your question.

Hi, Many thanks for reading and responding to my query.

I have attached a picture which I hope will highlight the area I am having a problem with, hope this helps.

Many thanks once again.

Naw. That's not what your looking for. I made this post years ago. Check it out.

Hi Yes thanks for the detailed picture s and explanation of the motor strip down and cleaning up, however, I cannot seem to see (when the complete running board is on the floor off of the vehicle) where the rod that joins both front and rear brackets, as it is this rod that I need to disconnect from the old bracket with motor affixed. Looking at the new bracket inclusive of motor the motor shaft has a threaded hole ready to accept a grubscrew/bolt whatever it is, as unless I can separate the rod from the motor shaft, even if I drop the whole running board with the back bracket I'm still left with this separation issue. Hope this makes sense as both front brackets on my vehicle have snapped despite both motors still working which is a shame. obviously the previous owner or owners failed to lubricate the hinges regularly.

I am not following you.

I have a motor here on my desk.

I put arrow where the 3 bolts are that attach the motor to the board.

You have to remove the 8mm bolt and wedge, and that motor will slide right out.

Hi once again, I do appreciate your trying to assist me with the problem I have but I think we are at cross purposes as to what I am trying to achieve, sorry if I've not made it clear.

I have now had to remove the complete running board with both brackets ( picture 1) I have a complete replacement front bracket complete with motor all attached straight from the suppliers. Unfortunately there is a rod that connects front and rear brackets and it has a similar fixing at either end where it operates the hinges which obviously raise and fold the running board. I have tried to get close ups of the fixing, whatever it is, as it now appears to look like a rivet of some sort as it is hollow. I am unable to see any form of head or slot to be able to remove this so I can simply fit the new bracket/with motor.

If it is a rivet, do I just cut it off and re-rivet with a new one, only I'm a little confused as the new unit has a THREADED hole in the motor shaft which presumably is where i reattach the rod? I'm confused, I hope I'm still not confusing you.

Thanks anyway for your pictures, description and patience.

Barry

The question is, are u replacing the bracket and why. They don't go bad unless you crashed into something.
Or are you simply wanting to change the motor because the board does not go up and down.

I've only just bought the car, and it appears the previous owner or owners neglected any form of greasing resulting in both front brackets snapping at a hinge joint, such a shame, but had to be completely replaced as part of each leaf was totally missing

Hi Yes having to replace both side front brackets due to poor maintenance by previous owners where a lack of grease has resulted in a leaf of each hinge snapping.

Not sure now if perhaps that is not a rivet as it is hollow, if so guess I will have to drill out, probably replace it with a small bolt and lock nut, unlesss you have any other ideas with that.

Many thanks once again for sticking with my problem and trying to assist.

Hi Guys

Just in case anyone else runs into a similar problem to the one I have had, I discovered when the whole system was dismantled from the vehicle, i.e running board unbolted then both front and rear brackets together with the connecting rod, were on the ground , that the fixing was in fact a rivet.

I drilled this out carefully, pulled the rod off of the motor shaft, after having to use some heat and WD40, then reversed the procedure with the brand new front bracket, slotting the rod over the new motor shaft and replacing the rivet 5mm, then re fixing the rear bracket, altogether a fairly easy task.
