Hello,

I have a 2007 Towncar that is fairly new to me and it currently displays a check engine light along with the icon suggesting that the gas cap is loose/off. I had the check engine light scanned and it came up with a gas cap issue as well. The problem is that these messages are still there even after trying 2 different gas caps, one of which was a new OEM unit. I'm just trying to figure out where to go from here....could there be a bad sensor or something that I should check?

Thank you for any suggestions,

Rob

Hi Rob--never had that issue with my 2007 Town Car Designer. My wife's 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis--I installed a STANT locking gas cap when she purchased the car in 2008. I kept the factory gas cap in car's trunk just in case for emission testing. BOTH cars had fuel gauge issues that required a new complete fuel pump and sender under warranty.

Sounds like a sensor to me. I wonder if that is still covered by the Federal emission's warranty? Or you might have a leak in the fuel fume collector or plumbing to it. Let us know what the solution is to your problem.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a fuel tank pressure sensor. If the sensor or wiring is at fault it would cause the DTC more commonly referred to the gas cap.

It appears that is mounted on top of the tank near the hoses. I will research it to see if the tank needs to come down or if there is easier access.

Thank you for the replies.
