My Lincoln
1978 Mark V
I've been looking for a Town Car for a few weeks. I came across a private seller on the west coast with a 60,000 mile Ice Blue 2 owner car. He owned it for just 2 thousand miles and replaced the rear brakes, rotors, and battery, as well as the alternator and tires. He had a previous generation model with the front cowl leaking into the back floorboard, so when the '05 started to leak, he knew the drill. It seems he removed the seats and rugs to dry it all out and be sure his seal job was working. The car was well taken care of from the looks of the pictures. I will fly into his city and purchase it on my 60th birthday. I had planned a quiet day with my family but what the heck! A 1300-mile ride in a beautiful town car sounds like the perfect way to spend the start of another 60 years! My Wedgewood Blue Mark V will certainly welcome the company in my heated shop on those long, cold winter nights in North Dakota. I have never sat in one of these 3rd generation Town Car's, so it should be interesting. I look forward to exploring your forum and want to thank the owner, Sal, and everybody else who helps make this forum what it is. I was able to find a Carfax on this car, but I'm having trouble with the window sticker. If anyone has a suggestion, I would appreciate it. Vin# 1LNHM82W75Y655901. Thanks in advance.

Congrats!

Do a search here and you’ll find recommendations on what kind of immediate servicing is needed for a Town Car with really low mileage. IIR, most notably, all fluids should be changed.

Regards,

Kudos!

I bought my Navigator that was in Florida and drove it back to Phoenix. That was back in 2016.
The drive back was stellar.
Best modern ride I have ever owned so far.

Thanks to you both. I am looking forward to this trip. My 14 year old son has already been through 3 - C6 transmission fluid and filter changes with me, 8 shock replacements, a replacement set of rear brake shoes, and hardware on an '86 F250, with front pads and calipers. We replaced all 4 disc brake calipers on the "78 Mark V, and can't forget the rear diff fluid change on the '86 and all the brake fluids, power steering and radiator flushes. We also replaced the hard brake line running across the 9" rear axle on the Mark. Before he turned 14, he was a pro at checking and adjusting air pressures, setting up and using torque wrenches, and basically learning all about the tools we use in the shop. When this boy is older, if he chooses to pay a mechanic to fix his stuff, it will be because he wants to, not because he has to. When I bought the Mark V, he was about 10, and the look on his face from the back seat was just priceless! All I kept hearing was, "This is awesome, this is so cool!" Well worth the price of admission.

Kinda late reply, but she is everything I hoped for! I fell in love with her on the 1400 mile ride home so much that when I arrived, I started looking for a second one. We found one in Palm Springs, California, made a deal, booked a flight for me and my wife, and flew in less than 30 days after this purchase to pick up the second '05 Signature Limited! 40,000 original miles on the second one. She is a beauty! Coffee Mocha I think is the color.

Lol, shouldn't have let wife drive it... you knew another one would be the result. Unfortunately I'm in a similar boat right now. Wife is driving my '05 while I replace seats in her minivan. She's already made a handful of comments about how smooth it rides even around town... SMH I knew I should have made her drive the work van. But seriously, that ice blue is my favorite color on the TCs, my 07 was that color. I still love my 05, and the beigish, glittery white looks nice, but that ice blue is excellent.

As an aside, my little bro had a '78 Mark V from my grandparents. Put a very well built 460 in it, was hilariously fast.
