I have an 04 town car. Recently i have noticed the steering getting "tight" or "dead" spots as you steer. An example is when in an empty parking lot turning the wheel either way and letting go car should go back to straight. Mine will drive in a circle. I got the cat from my farther and he had the steering shaft replaced. Its not as bad as it used yo be but still does it. Any ideas? Also id like to get the window vents for it but ot has a landau top. Any suggestions? Weather tech has ones that go in the window channel but says wont fit cars with landau tops.

Generously LUBRICATE the U-Joint in the Steering Column under the Hood. I used Lithium grease myself.

Is the problem only evident near full lock or is it always there, even in straight ahead position?

Steering alignment settings power the return of the steering to the straight ahead position. When was your last alignment done. If the alignment is good then likely a tight joint or bad rack. If you jack up the front end so both front wheels are off the ground and supported with stands, turn the wheel slowly from side to side looking for resistance. You can also grab each front wheel and turn the steering mechanism looking for resistance.

Steering column joints tend to be tight in one place and free up before and after that. Racks can be tight or grabby in a more consistent way.

Good luck.
