I got my first car (2001 Lincoln Town Car) for my motive of transportation, and I have been dreaming of getting that particular car since high school
. I sent it to my mechanic for emission issues. I asked him to check the transmission fluid. He said it was a regular level.
Fast forwarding, he told me the transmission is having trouble shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. In retrospect, I did tell that the transmission had trouble.
I drove the car a couple of times and it reverses, neutrals, low gears, and drives well as long the car is going under 30 MPH. Why? One time I drove 50 MPH and the speed was decreasing, and every time I step on the gas pedal, there was a loud noise (either engine or transmission at maximum RPMs but did not pedal to the metal). This frightening moment stops when i'm at 30 MPH.
I looked up the problem online and try to find the most relevant problem and hoping for a solution. Since this website has knowledgable people who know Town Cars more than me, what do you think?
What is the best solution to this problem? Because the worst case scenario, I need a new transmission ($$$$)
