Would have positioned Lincoln to compete with Mercedes in the 70s and MB, BMW and Lexus beginning in the late 80s. These types of cars steadily increased share over time and eventually became the standard expected in the luxury field. Lincoln has never sold a car fully competitive to these. Had they made such a car beginning in the early 70s and kept at it, buyers the last 40s years would have had a different perception of Lincoln and Lincoln would have sold even more cars and made even more money throughout these years and better positioned itself for the future.
