Howdy;
Anyone have a good source or recommendation for sound deadening material? I'm pulling the rear seats out of my 71 to fix the quarter windows and the insulation behind/under them is cracked and worn. Figure I may as well replace it while I'm back there. Recommendations? Have you had good luck with any particular source or product?

Thanks

I like DynaMat. Its very sticky, easy to use and doesn't weigh too much. Many professional restore shops use it. There are cheaper alternatives which you'll probably be happy with. I don't think there's a big difference in sound. I think the biggest difference is ease of installation and if it will stay put on doors, humps etc.

Thanks MarkX. I've used Dynamat before, and some of the off brands and there isn't much difference. In addition to that I was thinking along the lines of Jute Pad or that stuff that looks kind of like soft buffalo board (like the stuff they originally used in the 70s). I suspect that something like Jute would have more temperature insulating properties when paired with a Dynamat-like product. Thoughts?

Yes, you're correct. If you want temperature barrier too, then dynamat isn't too good. You might want to use it with Havelok Wool, 100% wool and maybe closed cell. They have the best evaporation qualities. Nothing worse than rotting out steel because water vapor can't get out.

I think the van lifers have insulation down to a science. Many of them deal with heat, but some also deal with sound too. They know more than I do. Many videos online. Here's one.
