1971 Mark III Seat Lubrication

Happy Saturday;
I'm cleaning the power seat mechanism in my 71 Mark III and it looks like the screw mechanism that moves the seat forward/backward is not lubricated at all (it looks like it's never seen any grease or oil). Would you apply grease/oil to that screw? Or do you think that grease/oil will just attract dirt and cause it to gum up? Appreciate the advice.

Vacuum a lot keeps the dust down. Especially if you off road a lot. :0


The grease will attract dust and dirt. However, seats are not moved a lot. And the parts are left over from the 1960s. (Overbuilt)

No kidding. I've pulled a few seats out of cars before but these things are heavier than my mother in-law. They're going back in tomorrow. I extended the wiring on both sides a few inches as I truly could not see how they get their hands under their to marry the wiring connectors. I did find the black/orange wires that appear to power that seat-back option you'd mentioned. Oddly the driver side wires were 12 gauge, while the ones on the passenger side were 14.

I have not removed the passenger seat.

I pulled the drivers seat because I was having an issue with the auto seat back release being inoperative.
Whoever had installed the seat (looks like it had been removed previously) had routed the seat back release incorrectly and damaged the connector by stretching the wiring. It was an easy fix (rare) and the seat back release works well.
