marchall foglight dissassmbly

Ok guys... I had a few spare fog lights i was messing around with and tried to take the housing off the bracket, and of course broke the rusty bolts.... thats not the reason i wanted to take them apart though... I need the lenses, and the metal trim peice that goes around it... My question is, how do you go about seperating the glass lense from the metal trim peice? It looks like there is a seal, do you just cut the seal with a razor blade and re-seal later? I would like to sandblast/paint this peice.

Thanks,
Justin

two screws on the outside IIRC then the lens pulls right off

right, i got that part. The metal trim ring stays fixed to the glass, i want to know if this seal has to be cut out, and a new one put in after, or can you just pry up on the seal or what? Reason being is the metal peice is rusted and i want to sandblast and paint it.

gotcha, i think its got an adhesive. cut it or pry it, sand it, paint, reapply with silicone/rtv. that should do the trick.

Cut the adhesive with a razor knife, the pieces will separate very easily then.
have you done it ONE WAY??
Yes, did it about 2 months ago, won some nice lenses on eBay, but the frames were rusty. My lenses were pitted but I had nice frames.

Be patient when doing this; turn the lenses over, cut the seal between the metal frame and the seal itself, don\'t cut against the glass. You\'ll feel when you\'ve cut through.

Gently push on the lenses and they will come out of the frames.
