2003 Lincoln Town Car Executive
Hi all,

03 Lincoln Town Car is having issues programming keys. I have done the 4 time method and 8 time method of turning on the car. The door locks do engage in programing mode. However, it takes at least 5 seconds before the fobs pick up there functionality to lock/unlock the doors. Shortly after 10 seconds of not pressing the fob buttons, the functionality completely stops working again. The batteries of the fob are fresh and I've disconnected/reconnected the battery to "reset" the ecu. I'm afraid this has something to do with my DDM. Any thoughts? Thank you IA.

Hi Just Lofi and welcome to the Lincoln Forums. I am not sure what procedure you are using. Therefore, if you have not already done so, try following the specific instructions in the 2003 Town Car Owners Manual. If you do not have your hard copy, you can download the PDF version here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Hi bbf2530,
Thanks for the warm welcome. The procedure I did was the same as the the owners manual. Turn the key in the ignition to run 4 times in 3 seconds and the door locks will cycle and then press a button on the key fob etc). This did not work out for me.

Hi Just Lofi. You are very welcome.

The instructions for programming keys/keyfobs are more detailed and involved than the two basic steps you posted above, including the specific key positions which must be used when turning the key back and forth. It may not seem much different, but all the steps must be precisely followed or the programming will not work.

If you looked in the Owners Manual and followed the steps correctly and it is not working, then yes, there may be a deeper issue which will need to be properly diagnosed and corrected. However, before doing that, perhaps ask a friend/family member to take a shot at this. It often helps to have a fresh set of eyes take a shot when we are stuck. It can often help us discover an error we are inadvertently repeating.

Keep us updated and good luck.
