door sill/scuff plates

2006 Lincoln Town Car SL. Scuff plates have "LINCOLN" embossed in an aluminum bracket which has some kind of corrosion or something on them. Where can I find NOS or comparable? Dealer wants $188.00 for one.

This corrosion issue seems to be a common Lincoln defect. Does anyone have a way to remediate the problem? It appears to be an issue with the gold tone coating contamination on the aluminum. Would sanding and repainting the gold area solve the problem?

In answer to the first question is to clean frequently. A coating may be a solution as well. However, some coatings may be slippery.

Sanding may be too aggressive, depending on how long the corrosion has been neglected. The surface is not steel. It is an alloy.
