T’was the night before Christmas, the garage was aglow,
With chrome that was shining like fresh-fallen snow.
The wrenches were hung on the pegboard with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
The engines were nestled all snug in their bays,
While visions of burnouts danced in their haze.
With my torque wrench in hand and a grin ear to ear,
I’d just tuned the carb for some holiday cheer.
When out on the driveway there rose such a roar,
I dropped my oil rag and ran to the door.
The rumble was deep, like a V8 in flight,
And there in the moonlight—what a glorious sight!
A candy-apple red sleigh, with chrome pipes that gleamed,
Pulled by eight muscle cars, just as I’d dreamed.
The driver wore goggles, his coat trimmed in white,
And he downshifted smoothly—oh, what a delight!
“On Zephyr! On Capri! On Blackwood and LS!
On Town Car, Mark VIII, and Navigator as a plus.
To the end of the street, he let the tires all sing,
Now rev away, rev away, let horsepower ring!”
He left me a gift—in the back yard by the pool,
A set of new tires and a brand-new Scan Tool.
And I heard him exclaim as he roared out of sight,
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a fast night!”
