Morning All,

I just picked up a 2023 Navigator Reserve yesterday, what a lovely car! I have noticed a fairly substantial rattle coming from the moon roof area when I drive over bumps though. Has anybody else encountered this? If so, was it an easy fix?

Thanks!

Bart

Mine was the plastic headliner strip that covers the middle area... between where the two panes of glass meet. While driving I reached up and pulled down on it lightly in the middle and the noise went away. A little piece of foam and mine went away without even going to the dealer. Might be worth a try!

They all rattle, the fix is not worth the mess.
If you want the rattle to go away, lube the rubber gasket around the glass. The downfall is the greasy residue attracts dust and gunk. Yuck! Close the vent shade and the rattle is barely noticeable. Bad design!

And I was so angry at Tesla for rattles I was getting in my Model Y which required few service visits to get fixed. I was not expecting that with 100K+ navigator will not have these issues.

My 06 Navigator moon roof does not rattle.
The glass has some weight. Not sure how it could rattle.

Thanks for the reply mrkrabs! Unfortunately, the middle strip isn't the culprit in my car. Oh well, off to the dealer on 5/15 to see what they can figure out...

Hi stenberg13. Yes, I would recommend having it properly diagnosed and corrected, as you are doing.

One additional recommendation: When you bring your vehicle in for the service appointment, ask the Service Advisor to take a short ride with you, so you can physically demonstrate the issue to them. Be sure they clearly state they can hear it. This can help avoid the dreaded "Could not duplicate the customer concern" work invoice.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Thank you bbf2530, I shall heed your advice!

Besure the dealer doesn't do this to your rig.

Great vid!!!!

Dirt or debris is the enemy of an opening roof.
The debris gets on the seal. Over time the seal gets worn.
While the seal is wearing the debris is attracting water. And the water migrates past the roof panel.
Over a long time the seal is so worn it no longer has the ability to keep out water.
Mold builds up in the roof opening area.
That mold restricts or blocks the roof opening drain(s).

Clean the seal once a year. That is all it takes.

I can do this on mine as well and it stops for a bit. Where did you place the foam?
Thank you!

I just pulled the plastic down (away from the glass) and inserted at piece of foam about 1” square. Mine was about 1/2” thick but that depends how soft your foam is. I positioned it and pushed the plastic back up. Friction holds it in place and for the past year it hasn’t rattled once. YMMV.

Been dealing with a rattle in my sunroof for 20k miles on my 2022 navigator and they can never duplicate it when I take it in. So frustrating!! They have lived it but it comes back a couple days later.
