Useless or broken button?

You might want to bookmark the online version of your manual, which is searchable.

Search for KEEPING or CENTERING and you will find all the relevant information for each system.

Hope this helps. P.s. I like your cat.
I have 13 Owner's Manuals saved on my computer. I find it much easier as an owner and moderator to find things that way using the 'Find' or 'Search' features. The print manual is still in the glove box and hasn't been opened. Although I was always aware that the 2 systems were not the same but are able to work together, I have read other posts/threads where there was the same confusion.

A little more detail here - see post number 39 in this thread... Has anyone notice lane centering not centered? If you read that post, please note that my return trip home did NOT exhibit the more rapid centering to where it annoyed me at very high speeds. It was better (see page 4 of the post, #74). There may be some learning in the system.

And I agree - without the nudge from others, it is challenging to conclude that the systems are different but interrelated. In my humble opinion they should have been grouped in the same section of the manual and clearly discussed as we've discussed.
Interesting additional information on the posts you indicated. Thank you for sharing.
Now I understand what I was experiencing based on your comment "Lane Centering is a different system. It can only be turned on if the adaptive cruise control is on. " I was confusing that with Lane Keeping and thought it strange that it was only available with cruise control. Starting to make sense now and like you, I think a road trip will tie things up for me.

Here’s a picture of my dashboard with the Lane Keeping and Lane Centering systems both activated along with the Adaptive Cruise Control. Ignore the fact that I’m going nearly 70 in a 55… ;)

The green lines indicate the lanekeeping is working and I’m inside the lane lines painted on the road, and the green steering wheel indicates the car is tracking centered on the lane ahead. Going around curves, I can feel the steering wheel try to move to keep the car centered in the lane. If I start to drift out of the lane, one of the green lanekeeping lines turns red and I feel a vibration in the wheel.

Is that proof that you were speeding and using your cell phone while driving?

Consider it my personal sacrifice for the Forum ;)

When I hit the button in the lane picture the top bar goes away (mine is gray) for off and back for on.
