SSM 53329 2024-2025 Nautilus - Front Brake Noise (new)

@gfdublin Grunt is the word Lincoln calls the noise in the 2nd front brake SSM (SSM 53329, first post in this thread).

They also called it grunt in the original SSM:
"Special Service Message 52785 - 2024 Nautilus - Grunt Noise From Front Brakes During Initial Brake Applications - Built On Or Before June 13, 2024"

The dealership (Shults Lincoln in Wexford, PA) I purchased my 2024 Nautilus is about to get dumped for ongoing business. They supposedly ordered my replacement brake rotors for this back in October. This is documented (including the part number) on the invoice I got for all of the other work that day. They told me they were backordered and would be several weeks before they came in. Which is possible it was accurate at the time. Others reported waiting for a few weeks. I've had 2 service appointments with them since then (December and January) and both times I asked about them and was told "we'll call you" and "it shouldn't be too much longer". Over the last 2 weeks, I've called twice to check on the status. In the first call, I told the story to the initial person who answer the call. "Let me check on that". Then blindly transferred me to another person. I had to tell the story again. "Let me check on that". Then the call transferred to a voicemail box without any identifying information. Frustrated, I left a message with the details and asked them to call me back. They did not. I waited another week. This time I dug up the Service Manager's direct line and called him. Directly to voicemail. I left a detailed message again. No call back. That was a week ago.

Today, I called another dealer (Nick Mayer Lincoln in Cleveland area) that is a little further away. I live about 75 minutes away from the first dealer and 90 minutes from this new one). I initially got the scheduler and I politely asked if I could speak with a service advisor about the issue before making an appointment. He said sure, but he'd have to have one call me back. 90 minutes later, a service advisor called me back. Not bad at all. I explained the history to him. He was aware of the issue and said he just did a brake rotor replacement last week related to this. He said he could look up the part and their system tells him how long it will take to get in. It took him almost 5 minutes for some reason, but he came back and said he can get the part from Indianapolis but it will take a few days. We confirmed we were talking about the same exact part number -- the one listed in the SSM discussed here. Yep, that's the part. He's ordering it today as a warranty replacement without me needing to come in first to "validate" the issue. Assuming Ford's parts availability system is not totally screwed up and they can really deliver it, I'm hoping to get the new rotors put in soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it actually solves the problem, which I know from the SSM update might not happen. But I gotta try something. I've had this noise since I got the car in March 2024.

I'm done with the first dealer. If they call me back at this point, I'll let it go to voicemail and never call them back.

We have seen it more than once where one dealer can get parts where another says they cannot. I believe it is all about networking (calling other dealers) rather than just accept the parts ordering system method since these are likely on allocation. We have seen it with injectors and batteries too.

Our 2024 Nautilus built in October 2024, had 1800 miles when the "grunting" noise occurred. The dealership replaced both rotors per SSM 52785 with PZIZ-1125-B rotors. Now at 3000 miles the noise is back, so will have to wait until Q3 for replacements per SSM 5339. Question: Can the rotors and brake pads from 2023 Nautilus be used? According to Edge Copilot, they are the same. If the problem is the stiffness of the metal on 2024 rotors, then maybe 2023 rotors don't have the same composition of metal?

Rotors/calipers and pads are different on the 2024. The rotor face offset is different and the hub diameter doesn't match.
There are finally aftermarket rotors available though. Duralast has rotors now for the 24.

My new rotors are in and I've got an appointment tomorrow to get them installed. Amazing how this dealer could get them in 3 days where the other one has been putting me off since October on the issue. I realize that this may not fix the issue. But at least it's worth the effort.

RockAuto has the Motorcraft part BRRF1985 (second gen part) and one from a company called Dynamic Friction (???).

nice find! Never heard of dynamic friction but the P/N is 604-55012 for coated and 600-55012 for non coated. they seem to have a positive rating in general.

Took our 2025 Nautilis into our dealership in Naperville Illinois twice for the same issue with the grinding front brake noise. The time was fall of 2024. Last advice he said was that Lincoln had to figure out a fix for it. Now I see that bulletin (posted in an earlier post) advise that everyone is waiting for third quarter of this year for them to come up with a solution. We’ll wait and see. Till then wife is not a happy Lincoln owner.

New to the forum and new to Lincoln. I too have the metal on metal sounds. Thought it was a warped rotor but it went away after warming up. I am unsure if I should wait till Q3 or take it back in now.

I hate this noise it's so embarrassing even though I don't think people can hear it but nonetheless my anxiety peaks. Also, does anyone have really rusty vertical disc things (dunno their name) on their wheels. Mine look really bad.

I'm not sure the history of you two, when you bought your vehicle, which rotors you started with, what updates you've tried.

The originals were bad — most everyone complained. They came out with a new design around summer 2024 and it worked for many, but not all (we have those). A few have had a third gen rotor put on, around wintertime maybe, but still was not 100% successful. That's when Lincoln stepped back and asked engineering for a complete solution. This is what many of us are waiting on. We're happy with the second gen, and I think there are a lot who are. But there are apparently factors that affect summer more than others — just like the shock noise. Hopefully the 3rd time's the charm.

any news on the 3Q 2025 solution? My noise has returned abet randomly

I checked the tsb info site and no updates regarding brakes there.

Thanks for the update. I am anxiously waiting for a solution. Tired of hearing the noise. This is my first Lincoln. Hope I did not make mistake. So far only 3K miles and I had to keep lowering my quality expectations with all l of the small annoyances of this vehicle.

I just brought my 2024 hybrid in for its first oil change service 7500 miles. i mentioned my brakes were making noise off and on and had not been doing it recently. they called me back and said they were going to replace the rotors. i said i was ok with waiting for the perminent fix thats suppose to come out but they said this step would need to be done first anyway. they had them in stock and would do them that day so i said ok. so its possible for anyone waiting for updated fix they may make you replace rotors first anyway. on another note the day before my scheduled service (luck?) a big red warning sign came on as i was backing out of my garage it said high voltage battery warning and it was safe to stop. the check engine light was on also but not blinking. I drove around the block stopped a couple times and turned the car off and restarted and the warning stayed on so pulled into my garage and took the other car. in the morning the red warning light was gone but the check engine light was still on so i called morries lincoln and asked if it was ok to drive to my oil change appointment and as long as the check engine light wasnt blinking it was ok, its 5 miles to the dealer. after looking at it they said they needed to re-program one of the battery modules, its been fine since i picked up the car. they also took care of my easy in/out seat issue with the seat going forward when you open door and that works fine now.

There's another notice out, SSM 54264, stating the front brake noise fix is now targeted for late 4Q2025.

If they are the SW developers I use to work with, it will be January
