Open Letter to Lincoln - How I'd Improve the Nautilus

My thoughts:

1. Save driving mode to last selected.
2. Walk away locking
3. Brighter 48" and 11" screens. Can't even see them if the sun is out. The switch to the left of the steering wheel doesn't help. Black background doesn't help.
4. Too much reliance on touch screens.
5. HVAC touch screen system not easy for seniors to use. I've given up.

I know these are probably redundant, but that's the point.

Screen brightness is likely a bug you are experiencing. Search the forums for some workarounds. I don't have this issue so I am not able to provide any real instructions. Some cars have an issue where ambient light detection is not adjusting the screen brightness correctly, resulting in a dimmed display even with brightness settings at full using the buttons.

More widgets
Waze on top screen
Let the push button for Driving modes scroll through the options (rather than just bring it up on the touchscreen)
Make the "Lock" button on the exterior more responsive (maybe it's just me, but I have to try several times way too often before the car locks)
I just posted a new discussion about this. IOS 18.4 beta 4 now has Waze on the top screen!

Unfortunately, that will likely never happen. Waze is an interactive app and even in cars that allow different maps in fully configurable instrument clusters, Waze is never allowed up there.
Just posted a discussion about this. I just updated my phone to IOS 18.4 public beta 4 and Waze now shows up in both screens. Top screen is a toned down version but it is Waze

Yes! I am very happy to have been wrong about that.

Have fan direction automatically stay in the same mode , when starting vehicle instead to reverting to default.
Scents are turned off every time vehicle is turned on. Manuel starting of scent is required.
Weather and clock should be combined in singular widget.
More dashboard themes to choose from.

Howdy - not sure if this has been mentioned but...
I would like a way to set the default/prompt setting volume

scents do stay on. you have to click on the top right dots or bars and adjust the frequency settings and strength level.
also, my air directions stay where I set them. so that's weird that they don't for you.

I agree about the time and temp widget and the boring themes. Hopefully Lincoln will adopt and implement CarPlay Ultra ASAP

@jv1ixn what is the year and trim package of your nautilus. My vent positions are not persistent

Hi ExLexus and welcome to the Lincoln Forums. I’ll give it a shot, hoping that I am understanding your question correctly:

For the audio system (FM/AM//Sirius etc., the default volume should be whatever volume it was last set to when the vehicle was turned off/the system was shut down. And the system should hold that setting as the default on next start.

For other features, like phone, Navigation etc., you set the desired volume while that particular system is in use/speaking. It should then hold that volume as the default on the next start.

If it is not following those parameters, there may be an issue that needs addressing, a weak/failing battery etc.

I’m sure others will also jump in to assist, so keep us updated and good luck.

@bbf2530 my car has never held the volumn for Siri, for example. I believe I am up to date on all SW. I am starting to doubt my battery as the car went into deep sleep twice in the past month after only a few days idle.
I will ask them to check my battery in 1000 miles during my next oil change

There is a way to set default scent at START as well as frequency of dispensing. Check the manual if you can't figure out the UI.

Agreed, when I use Waze every time I turn it down it goes back up at the next direction it dictates. I believe it is set at 7. I have tried to even try pay with the setting for adaptive road noise but alas, nothing.
As far as my battery etc…. I know that is fine. There was an issue when we first bought the vehicle where I could not get it to unlock utilizing the wall up/door handle. Come to find out it was a couple things. Car was on the lot in a deep sleep and had battery drain. It tried to receive a OTA update and it went corrupt. They charged the battery full and repeated the vehicle - no issues since.

One more thing I would like to see updated. The ability to change the turn signal blinks. On my previous vehicle I was able to update it from 3 blinks to 5,7 or 9. Would really like that feature as I believe 3 blinks is not enough.

On that note, I wish you could disable the chime and notification when you have the digital scent on start.

Yesterday, I passed my year ownership milestone and had to the opportunity to celebrate by taking the Nauti hybrid due to the dealer for software updates and a tire rotation. It was been driven over 10,800 miles and although I do not have the data, my mpg has mostly been at least 30 mpg on trips. It is nice to see a 600 miles to empty when tank is full.

As for hardware issues, I had the injectors replaced under CSP and a wind noise issue mostly fixed (supposedly to underbody shield flapping). I have had the noisy brakes (a shrill grinding sound) occasionally. It never has been a "grunt". My MKZ will make a similar sound if the rotors get wet and then dry.

I have not had the battery replaced and give thanks to this forum since I purchased a new battery charger within a relatively short period after all the feedback here. I kept it generally charged until the software updates for battery drain were rolled out. If it sits more then 2 weeks, I will attach a charger.

It has been at the dealer multiple times for all the software updates and I am proactive about it. The software quality has been a disappointment. The latest was when I updated Android Auto on the phone and took 3 drives to get it starting properly. The biggest issue with AA is that after 24B54, it loads AFTER everything else is up (especially after it has not been driven in 4 or 5 days) so you cannot do much with screen until AA loads. This takes a lot more time than it used to and assume it was system stability to stage software loading.

I have been very pleased with the room including cargo, the clean look of the 48 inch display (less info on screen the batter to me), ride, noise level, and mpg. The Pirelli tires have opened my mind to more than Michelin. The factory Pirelli MS are not available in US in 20 inch size. I would like to have the "excite" ride setting (a little firmer) available in normal and conserve settings.

As for major design issue complaints, the tablet display needs to be positioned higher, better touch sensitivity, and redesigned AC controls to be spaced apart with better contrast. Brightness should be improved. I would prefer hard controls for the AC even if labels for buttons were dynamic. Of course, I have many other gripes. Note to Lincoln: Some of us older folks do not have perfect vision so a little larger icons with better contrast is better. The best example is the dark blue seat cooler bars on the icon. I never hear a beep when I touch them so audible help either.

Before I bought the Nautilus, I spent 80% of the time looking at the Corsair although had driven a used demo 23 Nautilus as possible alternate. But after pricing out features with better mpg with hybrid and cargo room, etc. a 24 Nautilus hybrid seemed to be the better option. I had not really wanted a larger vehicle.

How about a built in Radar Detector, seems useful???
I.was actually thinking something similar to this idea. But having an EZPass feature, so you didn't have to use the ugly white window module! Isn't the EZPass universal for all toll roads? In all states?

No, it's not universal. Not even close. There are additional states that are E-ZPass compatible, but only a few.

But speaking of, the harness does have a connector that goes to the headliner for Electronic Toll Collection, but supposedly is only populated on the China models. So, not a bad idea, just not viable in N.A.

As sophisticated as the electrons have become being able to program your vehicle and it's account info to the state/states toll system would work.

Side mirrors that fold down automatically when in reverse. I would really, really, like to see this. I know it's already been mentioned but I hoped to put a bit more emphasis on this very handy feature that I need. Love the car, need the mirrors when backing in, even with the rear camera.
