Hi there, I searched but did not find what I needed.
If it's been posted I apologize.

I have a 2007 Town Car Signature L with the factory THX with Navigation sound system.

I want to replace this head unit but need a wiring diagram so I can connect the speakers and subwoofer.
Metra does not make a harness adapter for it. I've talked to them.
Their 70-5520 just gives me power.

Thank you!

Thanks Reyhook, that looks like the diagram for a unit without THX and Navigation.
My 24 pin connector does not have any of the speaker wires in it and I don't have the 8 pin connector for the sub woofer.

I'm beginning to think the speaker and sub signals run to the Nav unit/Amp in the trunk and then to the speakers.

I appreciate the help though!

I finally figured this out and it’s been working fine for the last couple of months

The factory head unit that comes with the 2007 Navigation and THX system does not power the speakers directly. It has pre-amp outputs that go to the Amp in the trunk.

This Amp powers all the speakers and the Subwoofer. There isn’t a separate amp for the subwoofers.

Consequently there isn’t an aftermarket adapter available to do the speaker connections. You must cut and splice male RCA connectors onto the speakers wires that run to the amp in the trunk.

Metra makes a wiring harness 24 pin power adapter # 70-5520 that will only provide Gnd, Constant +12v and switched +12V

You will need a Head Unit that has RCA pre-amp outputs for the Front and Rear speakers as well as the Subwoofer. You cannot easily use the speaker outputs.

There’s an 18pin connector that goes into the original head unit.
You will have to cut those wires and/or splice into them with the male RCA connectors. I’ve included a pdf of the wiring diagram.

To switch the Amp in the trunk on and off you will need an Axxess AFDI-5V adaptor that is connected from the +12v on the Power Antennae output of the new Head Unit to Pin 9 with the Dark Green/Violet wire in the 18 pin connector.
This converts the 12 volts to 5 volts that the Amp needs to turn on.

My head unit was a single din so I used a Metra 99-5810 single din mounting bracket. If I switch to a double din I will use the 95-5810.

Because of the location of the antennae input I needed a 1 ft. antennae extension.

Also the RCA connectors on the back of the head unit made it too deep to fit in the dash. There was a plastic panel that I had to cut an opening out of to allow it to fit.

Hey alumarine
I just bought a 2006 Town Car Signature L with the factory THX with Navigation sound system and am looking to do an upgrade. When you did yours did you retain the steering wheel controls? And if so were you also able to retain the rear seat controls?

I lost both the steering wheel and rear seat controls for the stereo.
The Axxess ASWC-1 adapter might reenable the steering wheel control depending on which head unit you use.

I think I also lost the rear seat climate control as well (I checked and did lose this feature).

Losing all of the above was not an issue for me.

Thanks for the info.
On any rational level, I really should not care either, its not as if I am riding in the back seat.
However, its such a cool feature that I want to keep it if at all possible.

Not that this would solve your steering wheel or seat controls issue but I'd imagine that you could by pass the preamp by cutting the wires going to front and rear speakers and directly splice into your new head unit harness if you didn't want to splice in RCA's and would give more flexibility in head unit choice maybe. Don't know that it's any better of a solution for the speakers, just a different one :)

Additional question, how could the rear climate control be affected by the stereo? That's so strange....

Great breakdown of your solution @alumarine

I think that is actually the default solution Crutchfield gives, or at least used to.
There are pros and cons of both approaches, depending on factors such as which system is there now (THX or otherwise) how well the stock amplifier is holding up, etc.

My thought on this is that it is easier to use the existing amplifier and not run new wire. There is a lot of plastic clips etc. on these cars and that gets brittle with time, the less that needs to be taken apart the better.
If you are willing to buy the various harness plugs etc. it is possible to do almost all the wiring ahead of time on a workbench, which is invariably more comfortable and easier than doing it in situ.
I have yet to get my hands on the complete wiring diagram (will likely need to break down and buy it) but the pieces I have found online do confirm that the rear seat climate control goes to a module common with the stereo. I have not yet figured out how to retain the rear seat controls, though I do wonder how much would be retained simply by retaining the steering wheel controls.

As to choice of head unit, you are correct that not needing the pre-amp outputs does widen your selection. However, just from my browsing I am not sure this really ends up mattering, all the units which one might reasonably place in a Town Car come with pre-amp outputs.

You are sooooo right about the plastic clips... I had to break out the epoxy last time I took my door off 🤦🏽‍♂️

Does anyone have the full wiring diagrams for a Signature L wheelbase with the THX Nav Radio option? I have been looking for them all over but so far no luck.

All those diagrams should be in the factory service manual. Mine for the 04 are quite good.

Here is for an 05'. probably same for 07'. I do see the rear climate controls referenced as well.

@HighwayStar Did those manual pages work for you, I am just curious at this point :)
Hey raider, thanks for sending them over.

I did pursue through them, but just looking at the input and output its tough to tell what all is going on here.
I actually ordered the full wiring diagrams yesterday so I can trace the system and understand what is going into that radio.
My current understanding though is that we have, besides the usual items:
  1. Steering Wheel Controls for Volume Up/Down, Next, and Voice Activate
  2. Rear Seat Volume Up/Down (and climate control that is somehow dependent on the radio possibly)
  3. Parking sensor, which I think plays the sound though the rear deck speakers
  4. A number of wires related to the DVD player in the trunk that provides the Map view
What I am hoping I can do is sit down with the wiring diagrams, get a better idea of what goes where, and then get on the phone with Crutchfield and see what I can figure out with their agents. I would like to make as clean of an install as possible and retain as much of the original function as I can (would be great if the rear buttons still worked, and the voice button on the steering wheel actually activated Google on the new head unit, etc).

Hello from France. Sorry for my english.
We own a 2007 Navigator Ultimate.
My husband wanted to change the radio, equipped with THX2.
He bought a Boss BE7ACP from Rockauto with the accessories.
The radio works but there is no sound. It seems that the amp is not detected.
My husband don't know how to connect this accessory (Metra Part # 70-5521 | Ford wire harness | Metra Online).
Thanks for helping us.

Hey @alumarine , last night I finally finished wiring up my stereo and had a chance to power everything on. Long story short, I have several items not working, but most significantly is no sound at all.

When I get off later today I am going to start troubleshooting, but I wondered if you encountered any issues with the amplifier not turning on or something like that when you did your install.

I have what should be 5v going to the Pin 9 as you describe, but that is one thing I need to actually check is working.

Was your system off immidietely prior to disasembling it? Did you have any fuses blow?
