2022 Navigator

Nice! Good for you. Care to share which dealership?
Joe Rizza Lincoln but the GM there said he gave me that price because I bought 3 new Navigators,2 black labels and a 2019 reserve plus a 2020 ford Fusion for my wife. All in a 1.5 year period!

Thats in Orland Park Illinois.

I found one Fair Oaks in Naperville. I am heading there this morning to get the 2nd order. The GM Larry was very nice when I spoke to him on the phone. They have 4 dealer orders with ETA end of Feb or 1st week of March. I’ll see if I can persuade him to sell me one with XPLAN otherwise, I will stick with my order with ETA of May-June. Thanks!

Quick question: I went to another dealership to place an order. Put 1K deposit and did all the paperwork and agreed on xPlan pricing. But they want to run my credit. I was like, I’m not even financing with Ford/Lincoln. GM said they don’t know me and just want to make sure everything checks out since it’s a 6 figure vehicle. My other dealer that ordered my other 2022 never have to run my credit.

Did anyone else who pre ordered had your credit ran first?

It felt weird.

HI BL S E. It is not unusual at all for a Dealership to run a credit check. Many probably run it without giving you the courtesy of even telling us.

In the past, did you ever go into a Dealership and ask to take a test drive of vehicle and they ask you for your drivers license and tell you they will need to "make a copy of it"? Don't be shocked to learn that often times they ran a credit check while you are out on your test drive.

Nowadays it can be harder to hide that they did run a credit check, since many people have credit cards and other services which will notify us when a credit check was run etc.

However, the bottom line is that it is not unusual at all for exactly the reason they told you...Especially since you are not financing through Lincoln Motor Credit. They are ordering 5-6 figure vehicle on your word that you will come pick it up and have the ability to finance and/or pay for it through a third party. If you are turned downa nd can't pay, it can get problematic for them.

Good luck.

Hello BBF2530,

I understand but the ding caused by the hard pull is unnecessary since the SUV won’t be here in 3-4 months. They can do a background check not a problem but credit check in my opinion is not necessary at this point. But I guess I’m gonna just suck it up since I’m saving close to $7K with the xPlan.

Oh, if a buyer is turned down by any financing, it actually is to the dealership’s advantage since they will have an SUV in their inventory and can sell easily for more profit, especially during this time of chip shortage.

Thanks!

Most dealerships will do a soft pull that doesn’t affect your credit and only do the hard pull when you actually are buying or leasing the vehicle. They want to see your credit score and report to determine if you can qualify for a 6 figure vehicle 🚗.

Hi BL S E. I was not defending the practice, simply explaining one of the various reasons some Dealers will do such a thing. Sort of how I would not be on the side of volcanic destruction and tsunamis if I simply explain why/how tectonic plate shifting and earthquakes happen. ;)

And Dealers that perform these credit checks ("hard pull" or "soft pull") without alerting the prospective customer do not care about the "...ding caused by the hard pull...". So please don't shoot the messenger, who is only telling you why they do it. Not agreeing with it.

Also, things are not as simple as "...it actually is to the dealership’s advantage since they will have an SUV in their inventory and can sell easily for more profit." Lincoln/Ford is currently scheduling confirmed customer orders before Dealer stock orders. A Dealer would have some explaining to do if their supposedly "Confirmed Customer Order" were suddenly to go unsold to the named customer. And if it happens too often, their future "confirmed" orders may/will fall to the back of the line, which would not be to their advantage.
The Dealer wants to sell it to the confirmed buyer first.

Hope that makes my explanation and the reason for it a bit clearer.

Good luck.

When I go to the dealer to buy a new vehicle one of the first things I discuss with them is the credit pull I tell them they can find out what they need to with a soft pull, this last vehicle Lincoln Financial didnt even do a hard pull because of the money down and my relationship with them thru the years. My truck was a special order that the dealership ordered for dealer stock I asked him about and he [the GM] admitted to it saying he cannot get enough cars to sell so they started putting in special orders.Im not sure if that means it was a customer order or not,but it was ordered for dealer stock.

Huh, I've never had a dealer run my credit until it was time to sign the paperwork and this includes the last 15 years worth of BMW M cars and I've bought from 5+ dealers in 3 states including this past November for an X5.

The 'gator will be my first Ford/Lincoln vehicle (if it all works out :D) but the dealer I selected didn't ask for a credit check either.

It does sound unusual - I'd would've asked "checks out? How? Do you get a lot of customers who order Navigators & can't pay for them and then you have trouble finding another buyer?"

No its not unusual at all they just want to assess your finances to see if you qualify. The dealer ive been going to doesnt even bother with a credit check because they know me.

No thats not it they want to sell it to the original buyer if that does not work out they will have no trouble selling it to someone else.

I was really weird and I almost had a huge argument with both the sales and GM. I have 757 credit score and I will have no issue financing. My DTI is very low.

Only thing I can think of is I don’t look like I can afford a 6 figure SUV. ( I look very young and innocent). I volunteered to show my W2 and even showed him my credit score via MyFico credit app. I just really don’t want the unnecessary pull since the suv won’t be here until 3-4 months.

Thanks man!

I'm actually surprised the dealer didnt run a credit check or verify I have a way to actually pay for the vehicle. Just a small deposit ($500). What was implied is if I cant qualify to purchase upon arrival they'll just put it in deal stock and sell it in 3 days likely for more than I am purchasing it for. I also am on the younger side and was surprised they didnt ask any questions.

Yup! Same thing the other dealer did, just $500 deposit and they did the order same day. They’ll be glad to have one in stock if I have to walk away or something. This new dealership is supposed to be the biggest black label dealer in our state.

When they asked your name and you said, "Golfpro", well, there you go. They realized if you finish 20th this week, you can pay cash for the vehicle.

I'm an airline pilot, so they knew I was a risk lol.

I put a $500 deposit down too. I certainly didn’t sign for the dealer to do a credit check. Seems kind of shady to pull it without your permission, in fact it might be illegal.

Got an updated email last night that my estimated week has been bumped back a week to 3/7/22. 🤪 I knew it wasn’t going to go off wo a hitch, especially after reading the article about Ford cutting production at the KY plant (among several others) because of continued chip issues, but was still a little bummed to see it.
