Is it worth to wait for 2022 Aviator to have Sync 4? with 13" screen and double the computing power and vivid graphics as indicated in the 2021 Nautilus, it will be a pity that a new Aviator will not have it, plus a lot other benefits. The Chinese version of the Aviator already has it, it looks really cool. It is obvious that the current Aviator will not be able to be upgraded to Sync 4. I'm going to buy in the next 2 to 4 months, maybe wait a little longer? Do anyone know if Sync 4 will be in the 2022 model year?

Hi Wheeling. The only one who can decide if it is worth if for you to wait for SYNC is you.

SYNC 4 will be a feature of the 2022 Aviator. For all anyone knows at the moment, it could possibly be introduced later in the 2021 model year as a JOB change. There is no way to know right now.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

The all new updated Sync 4 system is going to be included on the 2021 Nautilus.
https://www.lincoln.com/luxury-crossovers/nautilus/2021/

The Aviator still comes with the older Sync 3 system that's been out for many years already.
Many of the new 2021 Ford come with Sync 4 as well, so it's a bit disappointing.
I really hope the 2021 Aviator will get a Sync 4 mid cycle refresh (before the 2022 model is released at least)

I just ordered a 2021 Aviator Black Label Grand Touring a few days ago, but I'm starting to think maybe I should wait for the mid cycle refresh or even 2022 to get what I really want. (and get my deposit back if so)

Sync 4 will probably be around for at least 3-4 years before Sync 5, if it's a similar upgrade cycle Sync 3 was out.

Thoughts? If I can't wait, would it make sense or be silly to lease a 2021 with Sync 3 sooner and then BUY the 2022 with Sync 4 next year?

Depending on your need. If you can wait, I think you should. After all, you are going to keep the Aviator for a few years. Due to the Covid-19, my need to change the vehicle is not that urgent, so I'll wait. Hope Lincoln will have a mid year upgrade.

I just got a response from my Lincoln dealer:

"Hi Jon,

I made a couple of calls and for the Aviator seeing how it came out in 2020

The Sync 4 won’t be available for this vehicle for a couple of years I am told"

(Ugh, Do you really think we will need to wait for 2023???)

Too bad, I guess in that case we have no choice. But I really doubt it. I think 2022 MY will be really likely to have Sync 4.

Ok, well I'll guess I'll make do with Sync 3, It still has Birds Eye backup camera view etc, plenty good enough.
So I guess I really want an Aviator Grand Touring still. It's time to retire my 2015 Ford Explorer Sport

Guess Sync updates are not like Windows updates? Is there some physical constraint to upgrading Sync editions?

Hi GT500. Yes, there are hardware and other differences between SYBC versions. For example, the original SYNC/SYNC with MyFord Touch can not be factory upgaded to SYNC 3, because there are hardware and other differences precluding it. However, it is possible to buy the necessary hardware third party/aftermarket and update, if desired.

In a similar vein, SYNC 3.0 can only be updated, not actory upgraded, to SYNC 3.3/3.4. There are third party websites that instruct how to upgrade SYNC 3 to SYNC 3.4 in a non-factory approved method. However, I would not recommend doing that, at least until the vehicle is no longer under warranty. Doing so can/will cause warranty claim issues if we should ever have electronic/electrical/audio/HVAC issues, since those systems are all tied into SYNC nowadays.

And no previous SYNC version, including SYNC 3.4, will be able to be factory upgraded to SYNC 4.

Hopefully that answered your question in an understandable manner. Good luck.

It does, thank you. A good marketing hook to get you into a newer vehicle I guess. Imagine if Microsoft made every major Windows update require a new computer. I'm not hung up on having the latest Sync version in my Aviator.

I really think the Sync 4 is a deal breaker. With it, you are future proofed for the next 5 years. Without it, You are stuck with old technology for the next 5 years. I'm waiting for the Nautilus to come out to test the Sync 4. it got a 13" screen and a faster CPU.

Let us know your thoughts on sync 4. I should probably look for some YouTube walkthrough videos out there. I put a deposit down for a 2021 aviator grand touring but I can still back out later this month when it comes in if Sync 4 turns back into a deal breaker for me again. (Going back and forth) I just don’t want to wait until 2023 if even the 2022 won’t have it rumor is That wouldn’t make sense when the nautilus is getting sync 4 in 2021. Hmmm

After watching this sync 4 walk through video I’m have some serious doubts I’ll be satisfied with a 2021 Aviator that has Sync 3.4. (For 4-5 years)
I really want to know if sync 4 is coming at 2022 model launch, mid cycle 2022 or if we have to wait until 2023
