Hey all,

Im in the middle of rebuilding a power steering box on a 1964 Lincoln Continental Sedan and I'm confused as to why the Lincoln service manual would call for the steering cover bolts to be tossed?

These are not Torque to yield... what would be the reason why these cant be re-used? and has anyone a clue where I could source new ones?

Thank you in advance! 1641312869808.png Housing cover bolts.JPG

They might be able to - but why do they need to be replaced to begin with is the question. It looks like the factory put some permatex orange RTV on it. I still cannot discern why these cant just be reused using a dap of new permatex orange RTV hi-temp.

What do you lose by giving it a try: reuse them. Once upon a time there were very, very thin washers that were used instead of Permetex, but any good sealant should work if the threads are good and the bolts torque correctly.
