2022 Hybrid Aviator Grand Touring
Hi everyone, this is my first post. I have a 2022 Lincoln Aviator Hybrid Grand Touring, which I picked up new in December, 2021. Within about 2-3 weeks, an idiot light for the engine came on, and the Lincoln iPhone app explains it as "The emission control system has detected a very small leak in the Evaporative Control System which can allow fuel vapors to escape into the atmosphere.

I took it in the the dealer; they said it needed a new emissions control module, ordered the part, and a month later once the part arrived, they installed it.

Then, about 3 weeks later, the same idiot light has come on with the same explanatory message in the iPhone App.

Any thoughts before I bring it back in to the dealership?

Hi Hybrid Aviator and welcome to the Lincoln Forums. My opinion:The best thought is to call, make another service appointment and take it back to the Dealership. Blind Internet diagnosis for certain things is not very reliable.

When you call, ask for the same Service Advisor that took care of you the first visit. If you do not remember their name, take a look on the service invoice you received. From this point on, try to ask for that Service Advisor, so that you can establish a relationship with them. In this way, they get to know you and your vehicle to a certain extent.

Also...if you need a complementary Lincoln loaner, tell them so when you call to set up the appointment.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I'm remiss in not posting the outcome of my "The emission control system has detected a very small leak in the Evaporative Control System which can allow fuel vapors to escape into the atmosphere" message.

The car went back to the dealership 4 separate times here in Utah. Each time, the dealership did something or other to fix the problem & return it to me; each time the message came back within 2 days. That dealership became very unresponsive - the service advisor refused to answer my telephone calls, refused to call me back when I left a voice message, and refused to call me back when I left messages with other service advisors asking them to pass the message along. He refused to answer email messages. The sales manager similarly avoided my calls.

By then it was time for my seasonal relocation to Las Vegas, NV. I took the vehicle to a Lincoln-only dealership in Henderson, a suburb of Las Vegas. The dealership near Salt Lake City was a very large Ford dealer with a tiny Lincoln sign; my hope was the Lincoln-only dealership would be more focused on my issue.

First, the Henderson dealership said the Salt Lake City dealership technician had done all the work required, but just didn't clear the code - so they cleared the code and returned the car to me.

The next day, the emission message returned. So I brought it back again.

The dealership said they found a tiny hole in a vapor line returning vapors from under-the-hood to the gasoline tank, ordered the part, a week later installed it, and cleared the code.

The next day, the emission message returned. So I brought it back again.

This went back-and-forth a few times, as they received direction from Ford Motor Company support engineers to do various things. Each time, the service advisor said, "We found the problem & fixed it"

Each time, the problem returned the following day.

Ultimately, the service advisor said a team from Ford was coming out with their own test equipment, and they were taking over the case. It took another 4 weeks, but the problem ultimately was fixed. It needed a new fuel pump, they said. Apparently, there are two separate SKUs for fuel pumps: one for a non-plug-in-hybrid, and a separate SKU for a plug-in-hybrid; my vehicle is a plug-in-hybrid vehicle. They ordered the fuel pump, and when it arrived at the dealership inside the box was the wrong fuel pump. So they re-ordered and the correct part arrived.

So I was on a Corsair loaner car for over a month. It Corsair really just doesn't feel like a Lincoln should feel. I'm glad to have my Aviator back.

I've had the car back about 7 months. The message has not returned.

My car has been in the shop for 3 weeks for a different message - I'll post that separately.
