2010 MKT torque conver not working

    Remove this ad
has anyone tried to replace their own converter?
the dealership wants $4800 for new tranny with warranty
    cheap shops want $3200
the dealership says the torque converter is failing
(i am fairly certain they are right)
it doesnt seem like the misdiagnosis of misfiring
its hard to put that money into the car thats worth $4-5k with a f'ed up tranny
has anyone tried to replace their own converter?

I have...not in a MKT, but in various other vehicles. It's not a simple job, it requires separating the tranny from the engine, which involves removing drivelines, CV axles, draining trans fluid, and lots of various parts-n-pieces all over the place. Once you swap the torque converter, reinstall everything in reverse order.
