I'm experiencing intermitted inability to open from the outside my driver side passenger door. I make sure that the unlock button from the drivers door has been selected and still the door will not open. After a while I try to oprn the door and it works as it should.
I plan on going to the dealer to have it looked at however with the cost of them to conduct a diagnosis. I thought that maybe some has encountered this issue and has a direction that I could provide the service personnel at the dealership.

Thanks in advance

This would happen to my sons MKC. Would do weird things. Only drivers side door handle would work then sometimes the rest would. It was because the battery was becoming weak. May not be the case with yours though just putting it out there. Newer cars do strange things when the battery is getting ready to go. You have a 2017 batteries these days last two to three years if you’re lucky. Could just be that door though and the sensor on the door handle. Let us know what they find

Is it because the door is stuck to the body of the vehicle?
Or the door handle and mechanism is not functioning?

Door is not stuck to body. It is something electronic or mechanical of nature.

OK that will likely require inner door panel removal.

Post back after the dealership makes a repair.

My 11 MKX passenger rear door, that I rarely use, will do the same thing. My workaround is to use the front door handle or fob and open it twice. That works every time and has become 2nd nature for me.
Best Wishes

Hi Troubati.

Similar thing on my 2017 Conti, one of our people in the forum suggusted this and it worked for me!

Minnesota - high(er) humidity and low temps

With the temps, the weatherstrip (likely there are 3) may be sticking to the body or door with so much effort it is difficult to open. Either dirt or moisture in the dirt, freezes with the weatherstrip stuck a bit. Again just a guess.

The fix would be to clean the weatherstrips. (when the ambient is above freezing.)
Use a Meguires or 303 product to spray on a paper towel and wipe the weatherstrips. Do this until the paper towel comes clean.

If you want to take the next step, wax the door opening areas where the weatherstrip contacts the door or the body of the vehicle. With this step you are creating a thin barrier between the rubber weatherstrip and the painted metal. Easier for the two to part when the door is opened.

Again just a guess

That was the advise given to me. It worked for a few months, now it's doing it again, could be the weather, it's frickin cold in Minnesota, will try to use the detailer on the weather stripping again!

The dealer was able to find a faulty circuit associated with the door system. There was a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 17-2143 issued regarding the doors. It had expired. The Service Advisor attempted to see if Lincoln would honor it albeit the date had passed, they didn't.
Had them order the handle assembly ( don't remember the cost) and will have it installed next week. I will post the cost of the part and labor.

My 2017 was replaced after the warranty had expired. Its a safety recall so it is free of charge to you.

Thanks for the link; however, upon reading the above. My issue did not apply to said.
My door outside mechanism (door handle) would sometimes operate to open the door, and sometimes not. I never knew what I was going to get. I tried the TSB approach and was denied, as noted in my previous post.
I paid $749 for a new handle and labor, part $194 - labor $535.50

My dealership is Livermore Ford Lincoln (CA) I'm giving them high praise. On 3/14/23, my car was being repaired at the dealership. At the same time, Northern California was experiencing an Atmospheric River storm with winds over 74mph. While the car was in the lot after being repaired, some trees fell, damaging new cars and breaking my sunroof glass. When I arrived, the Service Advisor, Jim King, was fantastic in communicating with me the issue and the escalation that would be required internally to address the issue. I met with the Service Manager, Michael, who was also helpful and parroted the need for escalation beyond himself. I drove the car home after assurances that the spidering within the glass at the impact areas would not be dangerous. While driving, I got a call from General Manager Stan. He immediately exclaimed that he did not want me driving the car and he would have the vehicle picked up and a loaner provided while it was being repaired at no cost to me. For the times that I have interfaced with them for service, the crew at Livermore is FANTASTIC and well worth the 31+ miles in always heavy traffic to drop off my car.

I'm curious to know if what would have been replaced under recall is what you paid to replace out of pocket? Seems like a BS excuse if it boils down to the same part to have you pay for it just because the symptoms don't match the recall notice when regardless they should be replaced under recall.

Might want to follow up with the dealer if that's indeed the case. $750 out of pocket when it could have been avoided would have me pretty upset.

If you don't feel the dealer is being straight with you, you could always call Lincoln as well.
