The system was introduced by Ford in about 2009 models. They used a seal on the inner door and a seal on the outer door (body closure for access to fuel opening). The outer door spring weakened and allowed road debris and water to enter the opening and fall into the gas opening which prevented the inner door from closing causing an evap leak. The problem was resolved for 2013 when much better outer door seals and springs were incorporated, also another door was added to flush mount the inner door with the inner housing so nothing could enter. There is still the inner door. So your 2015 model should have the 3 sealing doors to keep water and debris out and the fuel system sealed to avoid evap leaks when vacuum applied to scour the fuel system.

    Hope this works for you.
